Derek Neilson

Derek originally started boxing in the late 1980's in the army as well as teaching self defence before discovering Muay Thai in a Hong Kong gym. On leaving the army in 1991, he started training in Muay Thai. Derek trained under Ian Cox and Tony Moore, fighting more than 20 bouts in both Kickboxing and Muay Thai. Unfortunately, injury forced him to give up competing and he subsequently gained his coaching qualifications in 1996.

Derek left the sport for around 10 years or so, before being drawn back and started coaching again at several gyms until he and the rest of the team decided to open "Exiles" in 2012

"This club has it all. Great coaches, great workouts and great laughs. What more could you want? I would recommend Exiles Hamilton Thai Boxing to anyone"

Derek currently coaches most of the Exiles classes.

"I have been involved in Thai Boxing for a long time now. I am delighted to have opened my own gym providing high quality training in Muay Thai to anyone who want to learn this exiting sport. I aim to provide an exciting and enjoyable class based training regime which will give you confidence in addition to a superb fitness level. We have sessions four times a week and you can come to as many or as few as you like. Whatever you decide, I can promise that you'll love it."
